I HAD TO LEARN IT THE HARD WAY.

When I started my own football academy in the 1990s, I had a bag of footballs, bibs, cones and a huge amount of enthusiasm. What I didn’t have was a system.

There was no blueprint for pricing, venues, marketing, staffing, parent communication, programme structure or growth. A lot of it was learned through trial and error.

Since then I’ve spent more than 30 years in player development, working within academy environments including Manchester United, Manchester City, Nottingham Forest, Blackburn Rovers and Burnley.

ACADEMY LICENCE FAQ.

01DO I NEED TO HAVE RETIRED FROM PLAYING?

No. The licence is designed for current players planning ahead as well as former players and selected experienced coaches.

02DO I NEED COACHING QUALIFICATIONS?

Relevant qualifications and experience are considered during the application process. Coaching and safeguarding requirements will depend on the territory and role within the academy.

03CAN I USE MY OWN NAME AND BRAND?

Yes. Depending on the agreed model, an academy can operate under a personal brand with “Powered by PROSPX” or as a PROSPX Player Academy.

04DO I NEED A VENUE BEFORE APPLYING?

No. Venue identification and assessment form part of the Academy Licence build process.

05IS THIS A FRANCHISE?

The initial model is structured as a selective licence rather than a traditional franchise. Full commercial and legal terms are discussed with suitable applicants.

06CAN I START WHILE I AM STILL PLAYING?

Yes. For some players, building gradually while still playing may be the ideal route.

07WHICH COUNTRIES ARE YOU CURRENTLY CONSIDERING?

The initial focus is the UK, USA and Australia, with other suitable territories considered individually.

08DOES APPLYING COMMIT ME FINANCIALLY?

No. An application simply begins the review process.
